The
father of a 14-year-old girl who was killed by her mother, who then
jumped off Brisbane's Story bridge, has asked mourners at the pair's
funeral to forgive her.
Kim Patterson killed Sidonie Thompson with an axe before taking her own life on September 7. Peter Thomson told friends and family at St John's Cathedral in Brisbane yesterday about Ms Patterson's struggle with mental illness, saying his love for her remained regardless of the tragic event, the Daily Telegraph reports.
"The Kim we loved was the bright, bubbly, beautiful person I first met," Mr Thomson said in a eulogy read out to around 500 mourners in the church by his friend Karen Harvey.
"She dreamt of her children's lives being filled with love and happiness and we forgive her unconditionally."
Mr Thomson said he met Ms Patterson, who he affectionately called "Kimbo," in London in 1985 when she was 22.
He said her "darkness" began to develop while they were living in London and worsened into mental illness after they returned to Australia in 2005.
But Mr Thomson said he still loved Ms Patterson and he believed Sidonie felt the same.
