ENERGY, negotiation and the gift of the gab have translated into gold for the state's top auctioneers.
LJ Hooker Greenwith's Michael Fenn took out the Messenger Community News-BankSA Golden Gavel - and for the second year in a row.
"The process of preparing and performing in this prestigious competition has really helped hone my auction skills and winning has made the journey even more rewarding," Mr Fenn said last night.
Mr Fenn and the runner-up, Brock Harcourts Platinum's Nick Baranikow, will represent SA in the Australasian Auction Competition, held in Adelaide in October.
Also lauded at the awards were the male and female rising auction stars, Luke Domingo from Phil McMahon Real Estate and Dale Gray from Brock Harcourts Stirling and top auctioneer Jonathon Moore.
Michael Smith from St Peter's College took out the Schools' Auction Idol challenge.
In a tough real estate market, a good auctioneer could be the difference between making a sale or not, Society of Auctioneers and Appraisers president Sharon Gray said.
She said auctions were a good way to sell in today's market.
